Can you smell the arrival of autumn spice lattes, cozy fires, and woolen socks? We do!
Last week, we shared our tulip favorites. You already know our passion for specialty tulips, but we also wanted to share our favorites among the more "funky" flower bulb varieties!
We are delighted to introduce you to these sometimes lesser-known varieties, each offering unique characteristics. They are truly worth discovering and growing!
Leucojum
With its delicate, drooping white bells, the leucojum is an ideal flower to add depth, poetry, and drama to any garden or floral arrangement. They bloom very early in spring, kicking off the flowering process in your garden.
Muscari 'Pink Sunrise'
A little marvel with clusters of tiny pale pink bells and a musky fragrance, muscari is the perfect companion to daffodils, which bloom at the same time. We like to plant them in small beds for a striking visual effect.
Amaryllis 'Rilona'
Amaryllis is best planted indoors in pots, offering its first bloom around the holidays. With proper care, it will bloom again every year for decades. 'Rilona' charms with its oversized petals in shades of apricot and peach, bringing a touch of warmth in winter. For growing in pots, we suggest you read our article on how to successfully grow it.
Peony 'Duchesse de Nemours'
Believe it or not, the 'Duchesse de Nemours' peony was created over 150 years ago! Its popularity has since earned it classic status. Its sturdy stems bear large, fragrant, double white flowers. A touch of yellow at the base of the wavy petals adds brightness to this timeless flower.
Narcissus 'Starlight Sensation'
This rare, all-ivory narcissus variety is remarkably delicate. It adds a touch of softness and elegance to any arrangement, with a light fragrance to boot.
Fritillary 'Ivory Bells'
Ivory Bells Fritillaries are one of our biggest favorites! This exquisite variety is well worth the investment, rewarding us with stunning stems. These extra-long stems bear pretty apple-green bell-shaped flowers, which delicately transform to creamy ivory as they mature. The gray-green leaves are also a beautiful addition.
Fritillary 'Meleagris'
Meleagris fritillaries are absolutely extraordinary little gems of nature. In addition to blooming very early in spring, their petals are covered in checkerboard patterns. It's fascinating to see nature create such an elegant pattern so naturally. Some are in shades of lavender/lilac and others between white and cream.
Seriously, we have a hard time limiting ourselves each year when it comes to selecting the new varieties that will be available for sale in the fall. We really find them all too cute, bringing a touch of originality and refinement to our arrangements, we can't wait to see what they will look like in your gardens!
