What is Floramama?
Floramama is a funky little flower farm located in Frelighsburg, in the beautiful Eastern Townships, Quebec. Operating since 2014, we grow flowers ecologically on 1.34 acres (0.4 hectares), using the bio-intensive method. After 12 seasons of perfecting our growing methods, systems, and sales markets, we can humbly say we are the pioneers in Quebec for growing profitable ecological flowers on small plots.
Our farm was proudly founded by women. During it's ascension, we have employed up to eight people who helped us grow and deliver the most beautiful varieties of local flowers to our 560 annual subscribers, dozens of florists, farmers markets, and local boutiques. We currently focus on delivering cut flower bouquets to a few local boutiques and a big farmer's market in Montreal.
For us, agroecology is first and foremost about working the farm as an ecosystem, on a small human scale and without heavy machinery. We are in love with nature and therefore try to work with it as much as possible. We use almost exclusively certified organic inputs and adopt a cultivation system based on minimal soil cultivation, to maintain soil structure and promote species biodiversity.
We work to respect and highlight the seasonality of different flower varieties and grow flowers that we consider more natural, sometimes less perfect, but in our opinion much more poetic than what is offered in the conventional industry.
Proud of our achievements and the flower farm model we have developed, we now share our knowledge trough a book and an online course that aims to initiate a movement to expand ecological flower farming in Quebec and further. We want to share our love for beauty and contribute to undo gender stereotypes related to flowers and agriculture in general.
