Digitalis purpurea
While most foxgloves are biennials, this new hybrid blooms the first year from an early sowing. The bell-shaped flowers give them a fairytale charm. The exquisite color is a shade somewhere between a creamy peach and a pale pink, all lightly speckled. The bells form on one side of the stem only. We treat Dalmatian Peach foxgloves as hardy annuals planted in spring, as winter survival is generally poor. Foxgloves are among my favorite flowers, and every garden should have them, they are so majestic. The seeds are coated in clay for easier handling.
*All parts of foxgloves are toxic if swallowed. Be careful around children and pets.

Sow 10 to 12 weeks before your last frost and transplant outdoors once all risk of frost has passed. Light can help germination, so do not cover the seeds with soil and water from the bottom or by misting to prevent soil from covering the seeds. Foxgloves are tolerant of cool temperatures and reseed easily on their own, so cut back the flower stalks after flowering has finished if this is not your wish.
Harvest when the first third of the flowers on the flower stalk are open.
5 to 7 days in a vase.
