Calendula officinalis
Known for its medicinal properties, its edible petals are highly prized for brightening salads in the summer, and insects love to forage on them. Calendulas are very easy to grow, their flowering is abundant, and they self-sow from one year to the next. This double variety with pastel shades of apricot, lemon, peach, and cream on long, sturdy stems is truly sublime. Colors vary depending on the soil composition.
One trick to encourage flowering is to remove dead flowers as they fade.
